The Elder Scrolls setting uses Base Fantasy with a few things added. Normally, magic in the Elder Scrolls setting uses the Alternate Mana Pool container to cast, and instead of buying spells with skill points, characters must buy spell schools, including Mysticism, Alteration, Illusion, Conjuration, Restoration, and Destruction. Common spells are learned by anybody that has the mana cost of the spell or more in spell school levels. (Ex. a Destruction school level of 3 gives all common spells in destruction that are 3 or less in cost. Uncommon spells and custom spells may be created as any other, however 1 equipment point must be used for materials and research. These spells are considered part of the school the base spell is from, or if multiple base spells, the one more mana is spent on. Spells use their mana cost when cast, however, in the same action the caster may choose to put more “oomf” into the spell with more mana, increasing basic parts of the spell, such as damage or range. When a character has at least 4 in a magic skill, he or she gets a special stunt (Cinematic game) for that school, once at 6 the stunt may be used in any school.
